TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida College System Activities Association has released its weekly coaches' polls and announced its Player of the Week Awards in Volleyball and Cross Country.


September 4, 2023 Coaches' Polls

Region 8 Players of the Week Awards (for events/matches August 28-September 3)

Congratulations to the following student-athletes who received Player of the Week recognition:

  • Region 8 DI Volleyball Player of the Week: Esthefany Rabit, Miami Dade
  • Region 8 DI Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week: Irene Mostardini, Polk State
  • Region 8 DI Volleyball Setter of the Week: Luiza Da Cruz, Miami Dade
  • Region 8 DII Volleyball Player of the Week: Anyaliz Rodriguez, Pensacola State
  • Region 8 DII Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week: Maddie Mire, Pensacola State
  • Region 8 DII Volleyball Setter of the Week: Kiara Vega, Pensacola State
  • Region 8 Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week: Evan Casterline, Daytona State
  • Region 8 Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week: Shannon Jones, Daytona State

All Player of the Week honorees will be considered for NJCAA Player of the Week honors, which will be announced Wednesday.

Fall Sports Updates

  • Volleyball
    • Division I: Top-ranked Florida SouthWestern State College continues to lead three teams in the top seven in the NJCAA Division I Poll. Miami Dade College dropped one spot to No. 3 following its first loss and Eastern Florida State College is No. 7. Daytona State College slipped two spots to No. 17.   
    • Division II: Gulf Coast State College is still No. 3 in the NJCAA Division II Poll while St. Johns River State College moved up one spot to No. 13 behind its second win of the season against a No. 1 team, knocking off DIII No. 1 Owens (Ohio) Community College.
  • Men's Soccer: Eastern Florida State jumped four spots to No. 6 in the NJCAA Division I Poll while Daytona State stayed at No. 8. 
  • Women's Soccer
    • Division I: Eastern Florida State moved up one spot to No. 3 and Daytona State moved up four spots to No. 5 in the NJCAA Division I Poll. Polk State College received votes for the second straight week.
    • Division II: Pasco-Hernando State College and Pensacola State College will play a Region 8 doubleheader in Pensacola on Friday and Saturday.
  • Cross Country:
    • Men: Daytona State won the FAU Invitational, beating the likes of Miami, Florida Gulf Coast, FAU and Stetson. Eastern Florida State placed sixth; at the Fire Invitational, hosted by Southeastern University, Pasco-Hernando State placed third and Lake-Sumter State College, fifth. In the USTFCCCA preseason poll, Eastern Florida State is ranked No. 19 in Division I; in the Division II poll, Daytona State is No. 5 followed by No. 12 Pasco-Hernando State. 
    • Women: At the FAU Invitational, Daytona State and Eastern Florida State placed ninth and eleventh, respectively; at the Mocs XC Kickoff, hosted by Florida Southern College, South Florida State College and the College of Central Florida placed fifth and sixth, respectively; and at the Fire Invitational, hosted by Southeastern University, Pasco-Hernando State placed third and Lake-Sumter State College, fifth. In the USTFCCCA preseason poll, Eastern Florida State is ranked No. 18 in Division I; in the Division II poll, Daytona State is No. 5 followed by No. 9 Pasco-Hernando State, No. 16 Florida Gateway College and No. 19 College of Central Florida.
