TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida College System Activities Association has released its weekly coaches' polls in Volleyball and announced its Weekly Awards in Volleyball and Cross Country.


October 30, 2023 Coaches' Polls

Region 8 Players of the Week Awards (for events/matches October 23-29)

Congratulations to the following student-athletes who received Player of the Week recognition:

  • Region 8 DI Volleyball Player of the Week: Victoria Zibecchi, Florida SouthWestern
  • Region 8 DI Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week: Abby Toeniskoetter, Florida SouthWestern
  • Region 8 DI Volleyball Setter of the Week: Roberta Purashaj, Florida SouthWestern
  • Region 8 DII Volleyball Player of the Week: Elizabeth McDonald, Pasco-Hernando State
  • Region 8 DII Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week: Maddie Mire, Pensacola State
  • Region 8 DII Volleyball Setter of the Week: Kiara Vega, Pensacola State
  • Region 8 Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week: Jared Falchook, Daytona State
  • Region 8 Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week: Giovana Meade, Daytona State

All Player of the Week honorees will be considered for NJCAA Player of the Week honors, which will be announced Wednesday.

Fall Sports Updates

  • Volleyball
    • Division I: Florida SouthWestern State College will carry the nation's No. 1 ranking into the postseason. The Bucs finished the regular season atop the NJCAA Division I Poll while Miami Dade College is No. 3. They'll be joined in the FCSAA Division I/NJCAA Region 8 Tournament by No. 13 Daytona State College, No. 15 Eastern Florida State College and No. 16 Polk State College. Hillsborough Community College rounds out the six-team field, which will send two teams into Sunday's Atlantic District Championship matches against Spartanburg (S.C.) Methodist College and Monroe (N.Y.) College. 
    • Division II: Gulf Coast State College moved to No. 12 in the NJCAA Division II Poll, one spot ahead of Pensacola State College. Both teams will head to Palm Beach State College for the FCSAA Division II/NJCAA South Atlantic District Tournament, where six teams will compete for an automatic bid to the National Tournament. Rounding out the field is Pasco-Hernando State College, Lake-Sumter State College, St. Johns River State College and State College of Florida.
    • Both Championship events will stream live on the FCSAA Digital Network.
  • Men's Soccer: Eastern Florida State won the Southeast District Qualifier with a 7-0 victory over Southern Union (Ala.) State Community College. The Titans will head north to Richard Bland (Va.) College for Saturday's Southeast District Championship match, where the winner will automatically qualify for the National Tournament. 
  • Women's Soccer
    • Division I: Eastern Florida State moved one step closer to the National Tournament with a 3-0 win over Daytona State to claim the Region 8 Championship. The Titans will play in the Southeast District Tournament in Milledgeville, Ga., on November 3-4. Eastern Florida State will play Gordon (Ga.) State College in Friday's semifinal and the winner moves into Saturday's final against the winner of Georgia Military College and USC Lancaster. 
    • Division II: Pensacola State College dropped a 1-0 heartbreaker to Cape Fear (N.C.) Community College in Saturday's South Atlantic District Championship match, ending the Pirates' inaugural season with a record of 5-4-2.
  • Cross Country
    • Men: Eastern Florida State and Daytona State won the Division I and Division II team titles at the FCSAA Cross Country Championships. The Titans' Dayton Law and Falcons' Jared Falchook were the individual champions.
    • Women: Eastern Florida State and Daytona State won the Division I and Division II team titles at the FCSAA Cross Country Championships. The Titans' Rachel Starr and Falcons' Giovana Meade were the individual champions. 
    • Up next for all runners is the NJCAA Cross Country Championships (November 11) and NJCAA Half Marathon (November 14), both in Huntsville, Ala.
  • Women's Golf: All three FCSAA programs participated at the Flagler College Fall Slam, with Seminole State College placing second, just six strokes behind Flagler. Daytona State tied for fourth and Eastern Florida State came in twelfth. All three teams are currently playing in their final event of the fall. 
  • Men's Golf: Eastern Florida State placed 11th at the National Preview in Hobbs, N.M.
