TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida College System Activities Association has released its weekly coaches' polls and announced its Weekly Awards.

Region 8 Players of the Week Awards (for games January 22-28)

Congratulations to the following student-athletes who received Player of the Week recognition:

  • Region 8 DI Men's Basketball Player of the Week: Mostapha El Moutaouakkil, Indian River State
  • Region 8 DII Men's Basketball Player of the Week: Jordan Smith, Florida State College at Jacksonville
  • Region 8 Women's Basketball Player of the Week: Isimenme Ozzy Momodu, Gulf Coast State
  • Region 8 DI Baseball Player of the Week: Brett Patten, Indian River State
  • Region 8 DI Baseball Pitcher of the Week: Justin Jackson, Santa Fe
  • Region 8 DI Softball Player of the Week: Sister Arnold, Northwest Florida State
  • Region 8 DI Softball Pitcher of the Week: Lindsey Paul, Gulf Coast State
  • Region 8 DII Baseball Player of the Week: Aidan Corn, Pasco-Hernando State
  • Region 8 DII Baseball Pitcher of the Week: Nathan Quinn, Lake-Sumter State
  • Region 8 DII Softball Player of the Week: Alyssa Vallad, St. Johns River State
  • Region 8 DII Softball Pitcher of the Week: Carolyn Lasater, St. Johns River State

Sports Updates

  • Men's Basketball
    • Division I: Daytona State College, Northwest Florida State College and Chipola College continued to play musical chairs inside the top ten of the NJCAA DI Poll. Daytona State moved back to the top ranking amongst the trio at No. 4, followed by No. 5 Northwest Florida State and No. 9 Chipola. Eastern Florida State College and Florida SouthWestern State College remained Nos. 18 and 20, respectively.  
    • Division II: Florida State College-Jacksonville received votes in the NJCAA DI Poll
  • Women's Basketball
    • Division I: Gulf Coast State College took over the No. 1 ranking in the NJCAA DI Poll, thanks to a 32-point win over previous No. 1 Northwest Florida State, who dropped to No. 3. Eastern Florida State continued its march up the poll, rising to No. 11, ahead of No. 16 Pensacola State College and No. 25 Chipola.      
    • Division II:  Palm Beach State College is still ranked No. 14 in the NJCAA DII Poll.
