TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida College System Activities Association has released its weekly coaches' polls and announced its Weekly Awards.


February 26, 2024, Coaches' Polls

Region 8 Weekly Awards (for games February 19-25)

  • DI Men's Basketball Player of the Week: Jayshayne Woodard, Indian River State
  • DII Men's Basketball Player of the Week: Nick Pouliot, Pasco-Hernando State
  • Women's Basketball Player of the Week: Alieghya Bartholomew, Gulf Coast State
  • DI Baseball Player of the Week: Brant Baughcum, Gulf Coast State
  • DI Baseball Pitcher of the Week: Amari Allen, Chipola
  • DI Softball Player of the Week: Kylee Crowder, Pensacola State
  • DI Softball Pitcher of the Week: Cailyn Heyl, Northwest Florida State
  • DII Baseball Player of the Week: Tad Brooks, Lake-Sumter State
  • DII Baseball Pitcher of the Week: Robert Tracy, Lake-Sumter State

Winter Sports Updates

  • Men's Basketball
    • Division I: Five teams continue to be featured in the NJCAA DI Poll, led by No. 7 Daytona State College. Northwest Florida State College and Chipola College are right behind at Nos. 9 and 10, respectively with Eastern Florida State College at No. 13. Florida SouthWestern State College is No. 24.  
    • Division II: Florida State College at Jacksonville grabbed the No. 1 seed for this weekend's FCSAA Division II/NJCAA Region 8 Men's Basketball Championship, which will take place at Palm Beach State College. The host Panthers are seeded No. 2. The winner of the tournament will move into the Gulf South District Championship Game on March 9 in Bay Minette, Ala. 
  • Women's Basketball
    • Division I: Gulf Coast State College moved back to No. 2 in the NJCAA DI Poll followed by No. 6 Northwest Florida State and No. 7 Eastern Florida State. Pensacola State College is ranked 18th and Chipola, 23rd.         
    • Division II:  Palm Beach State ends the season ranked No. 17 in the NJCAA DII Poll and now awaits its opponent in the Gulf South District Championship Game on March 9 in Bay Minette, Ala.    

Spring Sports Updates

  • Baseball
    • Division I: Gulf Coast State, after beginning the season unranked, shot up to No. 1 in the first NJCAA DI Poll of the regular season. Pensacola State is No. 6 and Northwest Florida State, No. 15. Florida SouthWestern received votes. 
  • Softball
    • Division I: A whopping eight teams from Region 8 landed in the first NJCAA DI Poll of the regular season, including seven in the top eleven - No. 2 Northwest Florida State, No. 3 Florida SouthWestern, No. 5 Indian River State College, No. 8 Gulf Coast State, No. 9 College of Central Florida, No. 10 Seminole State College and No. 11 Chipola. Eastern Florida State is ranked No. 16.
  • Women's Golf: Daytona State finished in eighth place at the Reynolds Lake Oconee Invite in Eatonton, Ga. 
  • Women's Tennis: Hillsborough Community College picked up a big 5-2 win over the University of Buffalo on February 23. In Region 8 play, St. Petersburg College scored a 6-3 win over Eastern Florida State.
