TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida College System Activities Association has released its weekly coaches' polls and announced its Weekly Awards.

Region 8 Players of the Week Awards (for games February 5-11)

Congratulations to the following student-athletes who received Player of the Week recognition:

  • Region 8 DI Men's Basketball Player of the Week: Josue Grullon, Daytona State
  • Region 8 DII Men's Basketball Player of the Week: Devontre Chaney, Palm Beach State
  • Region 8 Women's Basketball Player of the Week: Amelia Hassett, Eastern Florida State
  • Region 8 DI Baseball Player of the Week: Kareh Valentin, Central Florida
  • Region 8 DI Baseball Pitcher of the Week: Lucas Elissalt, Chipola

Winter Sports Updates

  • Men's Basketball
    • Division I: Movin' on up was the theme for FCSAA schools in the NJCAA DI Poll. Daytona State College climbed one spot to No. 3, Northwest Florida State College one spot to No. 6, Eastern Florida State College one spot to No. 13 and Chipola College one spot to No. 18. Florida SouthWestern State College is hanging in at No. 25. 
  • Women's Basketball
    • Division I: Chipola re-entered the NJCAA DI Poll at No. 24 following an OT win over No. 1 Gulf Coast State College. The Commodores only dropped one spot to No. 2, thanks to a bounce-back win at then-No. 3 Northwest Florida State, who dropped one spot to No. 4. Eastern Florida State and Pensacola State College moved up one spot to Nos. 8 and 14, respectively. .       
    • Division II:  Palm Beach State College remained No. 13 in the NJCAA DII Poll.   

Spring Sports Updates

  • Women's Golf: Eastern Florida State placed 15th in the Flagler World Golf Invitational at Slammer and Squire course in St. Augustine.
  • Women's Tennis: Defending national champion Hillsborough Community College opened Region 8 play with a 9-0 victory over Eastern Florida State.
