TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (September 27, 2022) - The Florida College System Activities Association has released its weekly coaches' polls and announced its Player of the Week Awards in Volleyball and Cross Country.


September 26, 2022 Coaches' Polls

Region 8 Players of the Week Awards (for all events/matches September 19-25)

Congratulations to the following student-athletes who received Player of the Week recognition:

  • Region 8 DI Volleyball Player of the Week: Barbara Koehler, Florida SouthWestern
  • Region 8 DI Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week: Arianna Rossi, Florida SouthWestern
  • Region 8 DI Volleyball Setter of the Week: Alexandra Koleva, Miami Dade
  • Region 8 DII Volleyball Player of the Week: Erica Irby, Gulf Coast State
  • Region 8 DII Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week: Brooklyn Schaffer, Florida State College at Jacksonville
  • Region 8 DII Volleyball Setter of the Week: Julianne Lindsey, St. Johns River State
  • Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week: Sebastian Hernandez, State
  • Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week: Shannon Jones, Daytona State

All Player of the Week honorees will be considered for NJCAA Player of the Week honors, which will be announced Wednesday.

Hurricane Ian Postponements/Cancellations

Fall Sports Updates

  • Cross Country: The first USTFCCCA polls of the fall were released last week and Region 8 was represented across both divisions of participation. In the D1 men's rankings, Eastern Florida State College debuted at No. 14 while Seminole State College and Eastern Florida State were ranked No. 19 and No. 20, respectively, in the women's poll. In D2, Pasco-Hernando State College led a quartet of men's teams at No. 16. Daytona State College and Lake-Sumter State College were right behind the Bobcats at No. 17 and No. 18, respectively, while Florida State College at Jacksonville was No. 24. In the women's poll, Pasco-Hernando State was No. 9 followed by Daytona State (No. 10), Florida Gateway College (No. 13) and South Florida State College (No. 21). 
  • Volleyball: Florida SouthWestern State College continued its run atop the NJCAA Division I Volleyball rankings on Monday while Miami Dade College moved up one spot to No. 4. The teams' first regular season showdown was scheduled for Thursday but has been postponed due to Hurricane Ian. Hillsborough Community College (No. 13) and Daytona State (No. 17) each moved up one spot this week. In Division 2, Gulf Coast State College entered the top ten at No. 10 following a 4-0 week, which included wins at (RV) St. Johns River State College and Lake-Sumter State College. The aforementioned Vikings re-entered the poll at No. 19. 
  • Soccer: In the Division I men's poll, Daytona State is ranked No. 8 while Eastern Florida State is No. 17. Eastern Florida State continues to lead the way in the women's rankings as a unanimous No. 1. Daytona State is No. 13 while Polk State College received votes. 
  • Men's Tennis: Eastern Florida State's men's doubles team of Lucas Gonzalez and Jack Dixon won the ITA Regionals doubles title Sunday in Tifton, Ga.
  • Men's Golf: Eastern Florida State finished third in The Invite at Innisbrook Monday at the Copper Course at Innisbrook Resort. The event was shortened to 36 holes due to the threat of Hurricane Ian. The Titans finished third in the event that featured 17 schools, mostly four-year NAIA or NCAA Division II teams.
