TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (October 11, 2022) - The Florida College System Activities Association has released its weekly coaches' polls and announced its Player of the Week Awards in Volleyball and Cross Country.


October 10, 2022 Coaches' Polls

Region 8 Player of the Week Awards (for events/matches October 3-9)

Congratulations to the following student-athletes who received Player of the Week recognition:

  • Region 8 DI Volleyball Player of the Week: Kaila Ru, Polk State
  • Region 8 DI Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week: Eddie Schultz, Daytona State
  • Region 8 DI Volleyball Setter of the Week: Alexandra Koleva, Miami Dade
  • Region 8 DII Volleyball Player of the Week: Ava Pringle, Florida State College at Jacksonville
  • Region 8 DII Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week: Brooklyn Schaffer, Florida State College at Jacksonville
  • Region 8 DII Volleyball Setter of the Week: Annie Messler, Palm Beach State
  • Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week: Sebastian Hernandez, Daytona State
  • Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week: Shannon Jones, Daytona State

All Player of the Week honorees will be considered for NJCAA Player of the Week honors, which will be announced Wednesday.

Fall Sports Updates

  • Cross Country: Eastern Florida State College held on to its No. 14 ranking in the latest USTFCCCA Division I Men's Cross Country poll. The Titans' are 25th in the women's poll, one spot behind No. 24 Seminole State College. In the DII rankings, Daytona State College jumped ten spots to No. 7. Lake-Sumter State College moved up three spots to No. 15 while Pasco-Hernando State College is 17th. In the women's poll, Pasco-Hernando State leads the way at No. 8 followed by No. 11 Daytona State, No. 15 Florida Gateway College and No. 24 South Florida State College. 
  • Women's Soccer: Still undefeated, Eastern Florida State is again the No. 1 team in the NJCAA Division I rankings. The Titans kept their perfect record intact with a 3-2 win over Polk State College. Despite the loss, the Eagles moved up four spots to No. 16. Daytona State is ranked 18th. 
  • Men's Soccer: Both Daytona State and Eastern Florida State moved up one spot to Nos. 8 and 16, respectively, in the Division I rankings. 
  • Swimming & Diving: Indian River State College kicked off the 2022-23 season with a dual meet against Florida Atlantic University on September 23. After falling to the Owls a year ago, Indian River State picked up the "W" in the men's scoring, by a tallly of 161-139. The River women fell just short of making it a Pioneers sweep - FAU won by the score of 154-144. The River has since hosted the Kojac Invitational on October 1 and will return to the pool on October 21 against St. Thomas University.
  • Women's Tennis: Hillsborough Community College hosted the Fall ITA Regionals and top-seed Arina Gamretkaia (Hillsborough) defeated No. 3 seed Isabela Alvarez Mercante (St. Petersburg College), 6-4 & 6-0, to win the main draw. In the consolation bracket, No. 4 seed Emma Sanchez (Eastern Florida State) beat Rocio Martinez Azcarraga (Hillsborough), 8-4.
