NJCAA Region 8 Notebook: November 8

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (November 8, 2022) - The Florida College System Activities Association has released its weekly coaches' polls and announced its Player of the Week Awards in Men's and Women's Basketball.


November 7, 2022 Coaches' Polls

Region 8 Player of the Week Awards (for events/matches October 31-November 6)

Congratulations to the following student-athletes who received Player of the Week recognition:

  • Region 8 Men's Basketball Player of the Week: Kasean Pryor, Northwest Florida State
  • Region 8 Women's Basketball Player of the Week: Ashley Baez, Chipola

All Player of the Week honorees will be considered for NJCAA Player of the Week honors, which will be announced Wednesday.

Subtropical Storm Nicole Postponements/Cancellations

Sports Updates

  • Cross Country: The NJCAA Cross Country Championships will take place at Tallahassee's Apalachee Regional Park on Saturday, November 12. The Half Marathon will be run Tallahassee's Miller Landing Road on November 15.
  • Women's Soccer: Polk State College went on the road and defeated Spartanburg (S.C.) Methodist Collgee, 13-1, to win the South Atlantic District Championship. The Eagles move on to the NJCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championships in Evans, Ga., November 13-19. 
  • Men's Soccer: Daytona State hit the road for the Southeast District Championship and rallied for a 2-1 win over Richard Bland (Va.) College. The Falcons trailed 1-0 entering the 88th minute before scoring twice to pull out the thrilling victory and a berth to the NJCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championships in Melbourne, Fla.
  • Volleyball: Florida SouthWestern State College won its first Division I FCSAA Championship, knocking off Miami Dade College, 3-0, to also claim the Southeast District A crown. Miami Dade answered with a 3-0 win over Spartanburg Methodist to win the Southeast District B championship. Both teams qualified for the NJCAA Division I Volleyball Championships in West Plains, Mo. Meanwhile, Gulf Coast State College rallied from a 2-0 deficit to beat Palm Beach State College in five sets and win the Division I FCSAA/NJCAA Gulf District Championship and a berth to the NJCAA Division II Volleyball Championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
