TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (May 2, 2023) - The Florida College System Activities Association has released its weekly coaches' polls and announced its Player of the Week Awards in Baseball and Softball.


Region 8 Coaches' Polls - May 1, 2023

Region 8 Player of the Week Awards (April 24-30)

Congratulations to the following student-athletes who received Player of the Week recognition:

  • Region 8 Division I Baseball Player of the Week: Josh Hogue, Santa Fe
  • Region 8 Division I Baseball Pitcher of the Week: Josiah Glodfelter, Pensacola State
  • Region 8 Division I Softball Player of the Week: Feline Poot, Florida SouthWestern
  • Region 8 Division I Softball Pitcher of the Week: Belle Sardja, Florida SouthWestern
  • Region 8 Division II Baseball Player of the Week: Skyler Schulz, Palm Beach State
  • Region 8 Division II Baseball Pitcher of the Week: Brady Ellison, Florida State College at Jacksonville
  • Region 8 Division II Softball Player of the Week: Haley Bond, Florida State College at Jacksonville
  • Region 8 Division II Softball Pitcher of the Week: Darian Pippin, Lake-Sumter State

NOTE: Baseball and Softball recipients will be considered for NJCAA Player of the Week, which will be announced on Wednesday.

Sports Updates

  • Women's Tennis: State College of Florida received an at-large bid and will join automatic qualifiers Hillsborough Community College, St. Petersburg College and Eastern Florida State College in the field at the NJCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championships, May 6-10, in Tyler, Texas.
  • Men's Tennis: Eastern Florida State has qualified for the NJCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championships, May 15-19, in McKinney, Texas.
  • DI Softball: In the NJCAA Division I softball poll, No. 3 Florida SouthWestern State College and No. 6 Northwest Florida State College held their positions while the College of Central Florida, Seminole State College and Indian River State College all moved up one spot to Nos. 7, 8 and 11, respectively. All five teams are in the field at this weekend's FCSAA Division I/NJCAA South Atlantic District Softball Championships in Clermont, Fla.
  • DII Softball: Lake-Sumter State College re-entered the NJCAA Division II softball poll at No. 20 and will be the top seed at this week's FCSAA Division II/NJCAA Region 8 Softball Championships in Clermont, Fla.
  • DI Baseball: Central Florida will enter the postseason ranked No. 3 in the NJCAA Division I baseball poll after dropping a pair of games to now No. 9 Santa Fe College. Miami Dade College continued to climb, moving up two spots to No. 14 and State College of Florida continued to receive votes. Northwest Florida State, Central Florida, Miami Dade and State College of Florida will serve as regional hosts for the opening weekend of the FCSAA Division I/NJCAA South Atlantic District Baseball Championships
  • DII Baseball: In the NJCAA Division II baseball poll, No. 8 Pasco-Hernando State College and No. 14 St. Johns River State College continue to pace Region 8 and will be the top two seeds at this week's FCSAA Division II/NJCAA Region 8 Baseball Championships in New Port Richey, Fla.
  • Women's Golf: Daytona State College received an at-large bid and will join Southeast District Champion Seminole State and runner-up Eastern Florida State in the field of 15 teams for the NJCAA Division I Women's Golf Championships, May 9-12, at Garden City, Kan.
  • Men's Golf: Eastern Florida State won the Southeast District Championship and is heading back to the NJCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships, May 16-19, at Newton, Kan.
