TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (January 31, 2023) - The Florida College System Activities Association has released its weekly coaches' polls and announced its Player of the Week Awards in Men's and Women's Basketball, Baseball, and Softball.


Region 8 Coaches' Polls - January 30, 2023

NOTE: The first regular season Baseball & Softball Coaches' Polls will be released February 6.

Region 8 Player of the Week Awards (January 23-29)

Congratulations to the following student-athletes who received Player of the Week recognition:

  • Region 8 Men's Basketball Player of the Week: Kezza Giffa, Daytona State
  • Region 8 Women's Basketball Player of the Week: Rapuluchi Ngorka, Indian River State
  • Region 8 Division I Baseball Player of the Week: Kareh Valentin, Central Florida
  • Region 8 Division I Baseball Pitcher of the Week: Michael Forret, State College of Florida
  • Region 8 Division I Softball Player of the Week: Beatriz Narazaki, Miami Dade
  • Region 8 Division I Softball Pitcher of the Week: Trinity Howard, Eastern Florida State
  • Region 8 Division II Baseball Player of the Week: Kaleb Freeman, St. Johns River State
  • Region 8 Division II Baseball Pitcher of the Week: Logan Adams, South Florida State
  • Region 8 Division II Softball Player of the Week: Reese Snipes, Lake-Sumter State
  • Region 8 Division II Softball Pitcher of the Week: Ali Shenefield, Lake-Sumter State

Basketball Player of the Week honorees will be considered for NJCAA Player of the Week honors, which will be announced Wednesday.

Sports Updates

  • Men's Basketball: A nation-high five teams are ranked in this week's NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball Poll, with a sixth school receiving votes. Tallahassee Community College slipped to No. 6 after dropping its only game of the week. Chipola College fell to No. 9 after splitting two games. Daytona State College (up three spots) and Eastern Florida State College (up four spots) rose to Nos. 15 and 20, respectively, ahead of Wednesday's Central Conference showdown in Daytona Beach. Northwest Florida State College re-entered the poll at No. 22 thanks to wins over Tallahassee and Chipola. Indian River State College received votes in the poll. 
  • Women's Basketball: Region 8 continues to dominate the top half of the NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball Poll with three teams in the top seven and four in the top 16. Eastern Florida State and Northwest Florida State each moved up one spot to Nos. 2 and 3, respectively, with Gulf Coast State College up one spot to No. 7. Indian River State is No. 16 and St. Petersburg College received votes for the first time this season. 
  • Baseball: The first NJCAA Division I poll will be released February 27; the first NJCAA Division I Player of the Week awards will be announced March 1. The first NJCAA Division II poll will be released March 13; the first NJCAA Division II Player of the Week awards will be announced March 15.
  • Softball: The first NJCAA Division I & II polls will be released February 27; the first NJCAA Division I & II Player of the Week awards will be announced March 1.
