TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (January 3, 2023) - The Florida College System Activities Association has released its weekly coaches' polls and announced its Player of the Week Awards in Men's and Women's Basketball.

Region 8 Player of the Week Awards (December 12-January 1)
Congratulations to the following student-athletes who received Player of the Week recognition:
- Region 8 Men's Basketball Player of the Week: Nasir Mann, Santa Fe
- Region 8 Women's Basketball Player of the Week: L'or Eyeba Mputu, Eastern Florida State
All Player of the Week honorees will be considered for NJCAA Player of the Week honors, which will be announced Wednesday.

Sports Updates
- Men's Basketball: The first NJCAA poll of 2023 was released on Monday and Chipola College is the new #1 team in the Division I Poll. The Indians lead five Region 8 teams in the Top 25, followed by #6 Tallahassee Community College, #19 Daytona State College and both Northwest Florida State College and Florida SouthWestern State College, who are tied at #25.
- Women's Basketball: Gulf Coast State College took over the #1 spot in the NJCAA Division I Poll following previous #1 Eastern Florida State College's loss on Sunday to Shelton (Ala.) State Community College. The Titans slipped to #6 while Northwest Florida State College is sandwiched between the two at #4. Indian River State College and Pensacola State College are Nos. 15 and 16, respectively.
- Swimming & Diving: The second half of the swimming & diving season gets underway today when Indian River State College hosts Rochester Institute of Technology and the University of West Florida in a tri-meet, and the College of Florida Keys participates in the Junior Orange Bowl College Meet.
