TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 14, 2023) - The Florida College System Activities Association has released its weekly coaches' polls and announced its Player of the Week Awards in Men's and Women's Basketball, Baseball, Softball, Women's Tennis and Beach Volleyball.

Region 8 Player of the Week Awards (February 6-12)

Congratulations to the following student-athletes who received Player of the Week recognition:

  • Region 8 Men's Basketball Player of the Week: Jadrian Tracey, Florida SouthWestern
  • Region 8 Women's Basketball Player of the Week: Sakima Walker, Northwest Florida State
  • Region 8 Division I Baseball Player of the Week: Jahlani Rogers, Santa Fe
  • Region 8 Division I Baseball Pitcher of the Week: Carson Dorsey, Gulf Coast State
  • Region 8 Division I Softball Player of the Week: Angelina Badalament, Seminole State
  • Region 8 Division I Softball Pitcher of the Week: Keivana Durand, Seminole State
  • Region 8 Division II Baseball Player of the Week: Kaleb Freeman, St. Johns River State
  • Region 8 Division II Baseball Pitcher of the Week: Max Windham, Lake-Sumter State
  • Region 8 Division II Softball Player of the Week: Kreighton Steinke, Lake-Sumter State
  • Region 8 Division II Softball Pitcher of the Week: Vivian Gorey, Florida State College at Jacksonville
  • Region 8 Women's Tennis Player of the Week (all matches through February 12): Arina Gamretkaia, Hillsborough
  • Region 8 Beach Volleyball Pair of the Week (all matches through February 12): Angelina Botolino/Lola Vidamour, Palm Beach State

NOTE: Basketball recipients will be considered for NJCAA Player of the Week, which will be announced on Wednesday. The NJCAA will begin baseball and softball Player of the Week honors the week of February 27.

Sports Updates

  • Men's Basketball: Chipola College, behind two wins over nationally-ranked teams, surged to No. 3 in NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball Poll. Tallahassee Community College slipped two spots to No. 8 and Daytona State College moved up one spot to No. 11. Northwest Florida State College remained No. 20 for the second straight week.  
  • Women's Basketball: Eastern Florida State College remained No. 2 in the NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball Poll. Gulf Coast State College moved to No. 6 following last week's win over then-No.3 Northwest Florida State College, who fell to No. 7. Indian River State College slipped to No. 18.
  • Women's Golf: Eastern Florida State placed 10th at the World Golf Invitational and Sarah Knitter was the Titans' top individual, finishing in a tie for fourth.
  • Tennis: In the first ITA rankings of the spring, all four Region 8 women's teams are in the top ten, led by national No. 1 Hillsborough Community College. St. Petersburg College is No. 4 followed by No. 7 State College of Florida and No. 10 Eastern Florida State College. In the men's rankings, Eastern Florida State is No. 3.
