TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 7, 2023) - The Florida College System Activities Association has released its weekly coaches' polls and announced its Player of the Week Awards in Men's and Women's Basketball, Baseball, and Softball.


Region 8 Coaches' Polls - February 6, 2023

Region 8 Player of the Week Awards (January 30-February 5)

Congratulations to the following student-athletes who received Player of the Week recognition:

  • Region 8 Men's Basketball Player of the Week: Jayshayne Woodard, Indian River State
  • Region 8 Women's Basketball Player of the Week: Isimenme Ozzy-Momodu, Eastern Florida State
  • Region 8 Division I Baseball Player of the Week: Kevin Karstetter, State College of Florida
  • Region 8 Division I Baseball Pitcher of the Week: Christian Oppor, Gulf Coast State
  • Region 8 Division I Softball Player of the Week: Maycie Hardy, Northwest Florida State
  • Region 8 Division I Softball Pitcher of the Week: Kensley Durrance, Santa Fe
  • Region 8 Division II Baseball Player of the Week: Ryan Monaghan, Lake-Sumter State
  • Region 8 Division II Baseball Pitcher of the Week: Connor McBride, St. Johns River State
  • Region 8 Division II Softball Player of the Week: Molly Bender, Lake-Sumter State
  • Region 8 Division II Softball Pitcher of the Week: Darian Pippin, Lake-Sumter State

NOTE: Basketball recipients will be considered for NJCAA Player of the Week, which will be announced on Wednesday. The NJCAA will begin baseball and softball Player of the Week honors the week of February 27.

Sports Updates

  • Men's Basketball: Indian River State College entered the NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball Poll for the first time this season on Monday, tied for No. 25. Four other Region 8 teams are ranked, led by No. 6 Tallahassee Community College. Chipola College is No. 8 while Daytona State College and Northwest Florida State College are Nos. 12 and 20, respectively. 
  • Women's Basketball: Eastern Florida State College, Northwest Florida State and Gulf Coast State College remained Nos. 2, 3 and 7, respectively, in the NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball Poll while Indian River State moved up one spot to No. 15.
  • Baseball: The second annual Panama City Beach College Baseball Classic, hosted by Gulf Coast State, featured 16 of the top NJCAA baseball teams from around the country, including six from Region 8 (Chipola, Florida SouthWestern State College, Gulf Coast State, Miami Dade College, Northwest Florida State and State College of Florida). With support from Perfect Game, the event generated tremendous for the participating student-athletes on PerfectGame.TV and various social media outlets. Gulf Coast State advanced to the Championship Game, where it fell to Wallace CC-Dothan (Ala.). 
  • Men's Golf: Eastern Florida State forced a playoff with NJCAA No. 1 New Mexico Junior College before ultimately falling in a playoff at the Titan Winter Invitational. This marked the Titans' second straight runner-up finish in the event.
  • Swimming & Diving: Both Indian River State and the College of the Florida Keys participated in the Pioneers' annual Craigie Invitational to kick off the final month of regular season meets. 
  • Beach Volleyball: The 2023 beach volleyball season got underway last weekend with each of the FCSAA's four participating teams (St. Johns River State College, Lake-Sumter State College, Palm Beach State College and State College of Florida) seeing action. 
  • Tennis: Eastern Florida State's men and women kicked off the FCSAA tennis season with wins over Gustavus Adolphus and Atlantis University.
