TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (April 11, 2023) - The Florida College System Activities Association has released its weekly coaches' polls and announced its Player of the Week Awards in Baseball, Softball and Women's Tennis.


Region 8 Coaches' Polls - April 10, 2023

Region 8 Player of the Week Awards (April 3-9)

Congratulations to the following student-athletes who received Player of the Week recognition:

  • Region 8 Division I Baseball Player of the Week: Juan Correa, Central Florida
  • Region 8 Division I Baseball Pitcher of the Week: Michael Forret, State College of Florida
  • Region 8 Division I Softball Player of the Week: Makenzie Fore, Eastern Florida State
  • Region 8 Division I Softball Pitcher of the Week: Charity Bibbs, Chipola
  • Region 8 Division II Baseball Player of the Week: Maverick Stallings, St. Johns River State
  • Region 8 Division II Baseball Pitcher of the Week: Connor McBride, St. Johns River State
  • Region 8 Division II Softball Player of the Week: Raquel Camuglia, Lake-Sumter State
  • Region 8 Division II Softball Pitcher of the Week: Kayley Williams, Lake-Sumter State
  • Region 8 Women's Tennis Player of the Week (for matches March 27-April 9): Paula Cabrer-Pericas, Hillsborough

NOTE: Baseball and Softball recipients will be considered for NJCAA Player of the Week, which will be announced on Wednesday.

Sports Updates

  • Dale Atkinson Field Dedication Softball: The five familiar names from Region 8 continue to dot the upper half of the NJCAA Division I softball poll. Florida SouthWestern State College is No. 1 followed by No. 3 Northwest Florida State College, No. 8 Central Florida, No. 9 Seminole State College and No. 15 Indian River State College. Lake-Sumter State received votes in the NJCAA Division II softball poll.
    • This Saturday, Indian River State College will have a dedication ceremony for Dale Atkinson Field, recognizing the Pioneers' Hall of Fame coach. Ceremonies begin at 12:45 p.m.
    • Seminole State's Courtney Miller won her 1200th career game vs. Daytona State on April 6.
    • Gulf Coast State's Scot Thomas picked up career win No. 900 vs. Tallahassee on March 29. 
  • Beach Volleyball: FCSAA Champion Palm Beach State College received the No. 1 seed in the 12-team field for the NJCAA Beach Volleyball Championships. The Panthers were joined in the bracket by No. 5 seed Lake-Sumter State College, No. 6 St. Johns River State College and No. 10 State College of Florida. Pool play begins April 20 at Hickory Point Beach in Tavares, Fla.
  • Baseball: Santa Fe College and the College of Central Florida held on to the No. 3 and No. 4 rankings, respectively, in the NJCAA Division I baseball poll. Gulf Coast State College moved up one spot to No. 13 while State College of Florida and Miami Dade College received votes. Region 8 continues to have two teams ranked in the NJCAA Division II baseball poll - No. 11 Pasco-Hernando State College and No. 15 St. Johns River State. 
  • Women's Tennis: Hillsborough Community College is the top seed in this week's FCSAA Women's Tennis Championships, scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
  • Men's Tennis: Eastern Florida State College was named the ITA NJCAA Team of the Month for March.
