TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (April 4, 2023) - The Florida College System Activities Association has released its weekly coaches' polls and announced its Player of the Week Awards in Baseball & Softball.


Region 8 Coaches' Polls - April 3, 2023

Region 8 Player of the Week Awards (March 27-April 2)

Congratulations to the following student-athletes who received Player of the Week recognition:

  • Region 8 Division I Baseball Player of the Week: A.J. Shaver, Florida SouthWestern
  • Region 8 Division I Baseball Pitcher of the Week: Nick Pineda, Hillsborough
  • Region 8 Division I Softball Player of the Week: Sierrah Snook, St. Petersburg
  • Region 8 Division I Softball Pitcher of the Week: Julia Petty, Northwest Florida State
  • Region 8 Division II Baseball Player of the Week: Maverick Stallings, St. Johns River State
  • Region 8 Division II Baseball Pitcher of the Week: Layton Deloach, St. Johns River State
  • Region 8 Division II Softball Player of the Week: Raquel Camuglia, Lake-Sumter State
  • Region 8 Division II Softball Pitcher of the Week: Emily Proctor, Pasco-Hernando State

NOTE: Baseball and Softball recipients will be considered for NJCAA Player of the Week, which will be announced on Wednesday.

Sports Updates

  • Beach Volleyball: Palm Beach State College won the FCSAA Beach Volleyball Championship, defeating Lake-Sumter State College, 3-0. By advancing to the championship match, both teams qualified for the NJCAA Beach Volleyball Championships, April 20-22, in Tavares, Fla. The 12-team national tournament will include three at-large bids, which both St. Johns River State College and State College of Florida hope to receive.
  • Men's and Women's Basketball: Region 8's All-America page has been updated to include Men's and Women's Basketball.
  • Baseball: Santa Fe College and the College of Central Florida are Nos. 3 and 4, respectively, in the NJCAA Division I baseball poll. Gulf Coast State College (No. 14) and Pensacola State College (No. 20) continued to flip-flop its placement in the poll while Florida SouthWestern State College and Miami Dade College received votes. Pasco-Hernando State College moved up one spot to No. 9 in the NJCAA Division II baseball poll while St. Johns River State is still No. 17. 
  • Softball: Florida SouthWestern is the unanimous No. 1 team in the NJCAA Division I softball poll while Northwest Florida State College remained No. 3. Central Florida moved up two spots to No. 6 while Seminole State College slipped one spot to No. 11 and Indian River State College crept up one spot to No. 14. Pensacola State received votes. In the NJCAA Division II softball poll, Lake-Sumter State is ranked No. 19.
  • Men's Golf: Eastern Florida State College remained ranked No.5 in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek NJCAA DI Coaches Poll. The Titans are currently in Miami Beach, Fla., at the Barry Buccaneer Invitational. 
  • Women's Golf: Region 8 is dominating the Golfstat NJCAA Division I Rankings with Seminole State College (No. 1), Daytona State College (No. 2) and Eastern Florida State College (No. 4) all ranked in the top four. Last week, Eastern Florida State won the St. Andrews University Deercroft Spring Break Invitational and Seminole State finished fourth at the Babs Steffens Invitational
  • Women's Tennis: In Region 8 play last week, Eastern Florida State defeated St. Petersburg College, 5-4 then dropped a 5-4 decision at State College of Florida the following day.
