TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (November 9, 2021) - The Florida College System Activities Association has released its weekly coaches' polls and Player of the Week selections for men's and women's basketball.


November 8, 2021 Coaches' Polls

Region 8 Player of the Week Awards (for all games November 1-7)

Congratulations to the following student-athletes who received Player of the Week recognition:

  • Region 8 Men's Basketball Player of the Week: Hasan Abdul-Hakim, Santa Fe
  • Region 8 Women's Basketball Player of the Week: Aleisha Curry, Santa Fe

All Player of the Week honorees will be considered for NJCAA Player of the Week honors, which will be announced Wednesday.

Fall Championship Events

  • Volleyball -
    • Division I: Miami Dade College won its 41st FCSAA State Championship, defeating Polk State College, 3-0. The win also served as the NJCAA Southeast District A Championship, which gave the Sharks a berth in the NJCAA Tournament in Hutchinson, Kan., November 18-20. Despite the loss, Polk State moved into the Southeast District B Championship match, where it defeated Spartanburg (S.C.) Methodist College, 3-1, to punch its own ticket to Hutch. Hillsborough Community College, who knocked off top-seed and No. 1 ranked Florida SouthWestern State College in the FCSAA's third-place match, are candidates for an at-large bid to Hutch.
    • Division II: Lake-Sumter State College rallied from a set down and 19-9 in the third to knock off top-seed St. Johns River State College, 3-1, in the FCSAA State/NJCAA Gulf District Championship match. The second-seeded Lakehawks beat third-seed Pensacola State College in Saturday's first match to advance to the final and earn a rematch with the Vikings, who claimed a straight-set win over Lake-Sumter State in Friday's winners' bracket final.
  • Men's Soccer - Daytona State College won the NJCAA Southeast District Championship with a 3-2 victory over Richard Bland (Va.) College. Next up for the Falcons is a trip to the NJCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championships in Tyler, Texas, November 15-20. 
  • Women's Soccer - Eastern Florida State College defeated Spartanburg (S.C.) Methodist College, 10-0, to win the NJCAA South Atlantic District Championship. This marked the Titans' ninth straight district title. Up next is the NJCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championships in nearby Daytona Beach, Fla., November 15-20. As part of NJCAA Tournament Week, Titans head coach and Associate Vice President for Athletics Jeff Carr will be inducted into the NJCAA Women's Soccer Hall of Fame.
