TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (January 9, 2018) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its NJCAA Region 8 Men’s and Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Polls for January 9 and Player of the Week selections for games played December 18-January 7.
The next poll and player of the week selections will be released January 16.

NJCAA Region 8 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Van Turner, Central Florida
Sophomore – Guard
Gainesville, Fla.
- Averaged 17.8 points, 1.6 rebounds, 0.8 assists and 1.0 steal in five games during the voting period
- Shot 50.9 percent (27-of-53) from the floor and was even better from long distance, hitting 56.3 percent (27-of-48) of his attempts. Also hit 8-of-10 from the free throw line.
- Helped Central Florida to three wins, highlighted by an upset of No. 5 Eastern Florida State, in which he scored 27 points on 8-of-12 shooting beyond the arc (8-of-13 FG overall)
- In the Patriots’ 81-77 win over Snow, he played all 40 minutes and scored 32 points, hitting 10-of-14 three-pointers

- Averaged 15.0 points, 15.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 2.0 steals and 2.3 blocks in three games during the voting period
- Shot 54.3 percent (19-of-35) from the floor, 66.7 percent (6-of-9) from the free throw line and hit her only three-point attempt
- Led Miami Dade to two wins in three games, posting a double-double in each
- Had 11 points and 16 rebounds vs. Baltimore City; 12 points and 13 rebounds vs. No. 16 Chipola; and 22 points (on 10-of-17 shooting) and 17 rebounds vs. Daytona State
