NJCAA Region 8 Baseball/Softball Notebook: February 20

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 20, 2018) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its NJCAA Region 8 Baseball and Softball Coaches' Polls for February 20 and Player and Pitcher of the Week selections for games played February 12-18.

The next poll and player of the week selections will be released February 27.

  • Batted .556 (10-for-18) with eight runs scored, one double, three home runs, 10 RBIs and a stolen base on five games during the voting period
  • Helped the Vikings to three wins in five games and hit safely, scored at least one run and drove in at least one run in the team's first four games
  • Three straight three-hit games to begin the week, including a 3-for-5, two home run, five-RBI outing in game two vs. South Georgia State

  • In his only outing of the week vs. Indian River State, he got a no-decision but started and pitched eight shutout innings in a game Seminole State eventually won in ten innings
  • He allowed only one hit and two walks while striking out 14

  • Batted .643 (9-for-14) with one double, one triple, two home runs, nine RBI and two stolen bases in four games during the voting period
  • Hit safely, scored a run and drove in at least two runs in each of the Buccaneers' four games, all victories for FSW
  • Was a combined 6-for-8 with five runs scored and five RBI vs. Palm Beach State
  • Against nationally-ranked Seminole State, she had a home run and two RBIs in each game and was a combined 3-for-6

NJCAA Region 8 Softball Pitcher of the Week
Liz Gollin, Indian River State
Freshman – RHP
Boca Raton, Fla. 

  • 3-0 with one save and a 0.00 ERA in four appearances during the voting period
  • Helped Indian River State to a perfect 6-0 week, including a sweep of nationally-ranked Central Florida
  • Against Central Florida, she threw a five-inning, two-hit shutout in game one, with 11 strikeouts; in game two, she pitched 2.2 innings of one-hit ball to earn the save
  • For the week, she totaled 16.2 innings in the circle and allowed seven hits, one unearned run and five walks while striking out 22
