NJCAA Region 8 Baseball/Softball Notebook: February 13

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 13, 2018) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its NJCAA Region 8 Baseball and Softball Coaches’ Polls for February 13 and Player and Pitcher of the Week selections for games played February 5-11.

The next poll and player of the week selections will be released February 20.

Tampa, Fla. 

  • Batted .450 (9-for-20) with nine runs scored, two doubles, three home runs and ten RBI in four games during the voting period
  • Helped Central Florida to a split of its four games last week
  • After going hitless in the first game of the week vs. Hillsborough, Medina was 9-for-16 combined against State College of Florida (3-for-5, HR, 3 RBI), South Florida State (5-for-7, 2 HR, 5 RBI) and Eastern Florida State (1-for-4, 4 R)

  • 1-0, 0.75 ERA in two appearances during the voting period
  • Received a no-decision in the Pirates’ 2-1 loss to Coastal Alabama-South but pitched five innings of two-hit ball and struck out six
  • Tossed seven-inning, complete-game one-hit shutout vs. State Fair, allowing just two walks and striking out seven
  • For the week, he totaled 12 innings, allowing three hits, one run (earned) and two walks with 13 strikeouts

NJCAA Region 8 Softball Player of the Week
Chelsea Peace, Seminole State

Orlando, Fla. 

  • Batted .632 (12-for-19) with eight runs scored, seven doubles, one home run, six RBI and one stolen base in six games during the voting period
  • Led Seminole State to a perfect 6-0 week
  • Hit safely in five of the Raiders’ six games, all multi-hit outings
  • Went 4-for-7 in the team’s first doubleheader vs. Polk State and was 5-for-7 in the second, including 3-for-4 with a double, homer and two RBI in game two
  • Was 3-for-3 with three runs scored, two doubles and two RBI in game one vs. Hillsborough

Long Beach, Miss. 

  • 2-0, 0.00 ERA in three appearances during the voting period
  • Helped Chipola remain unbeaten on the season, pitching the Indians to wins over Salt Lake, Meridian and Coastal Alabama-South
  • Threw complete-game, two-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts vs. Salt Lake
  • Tossed one-hit shutout and struck out nine vs. Meridian
  • For the week, totaled 13 innings in the circle and allowed three hits, no runs, no walks and struck out 23
