NJCAA Region 8 Basketball Notebook: December 19

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (December 19, 2017) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its NJCAA Region 8 Men's and Women's Basketball Coaches' Polls for December 19 and Player of the Week selections for games played December 11-17. 

The next poll and player of the week selections will be released January 9.

NJCAA Region 8 Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Tremell Murphy, Florida SouthWestern
Sophomore – Forward
Griffith, Ind. 

  • In his only game of the week, he tallied 16 points, seven rebounds, four assists, three steals and one block in the Bucs' 89-75 win over Indian River State
  • Shot 6-of-9 (66.7 percent) from the floor, 3-of-6 (50.0 percent) from long distance and 1-of-2 from the free throw line

NJCAA Region 8 Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Jas Hill, Tallahassee
Sophomore – Guard
Mobile, Ala. 

  • Averaged 29.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 2.0 steals in two games during the voting period
  • Shot 48.8 percent (20-of-41) from the floor, 46.2 percent (12-of-26) on three-pointers and hit all seven of her free throw attempts
  • Led Tallahassee to a 2-0 week, extending the Eagles' best start in school history to 12-0
  • Scored 25 points in just 23 minutes against ASA Miami then tied the school's single-game record with eight three-pointers (and also broke the school's all-time mark for three-pointers) en route to a 34-point effort against Palm Beach State. She also had nine rebounds and a career-high nine assists against the Panthers.
