NJCAA Region 8 Basketball Notebook: November 22

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (November 22, 2016) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its NJCAA Region 8 Men’s and Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Polls for November 22 and Player of the Week selections for games played November 14-20.

The next poll and player of the week selections will be released November 29.

NJCAA Region 8 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Tremell Murphy, Florida SouthWestern
Freshman – Forward
Griffith, Ind. 

  • Averaged 27.5 points, 11.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 3.0 steals and 0.5 blocks in two games during the voting period
  • Shot 59.5 percent (22-of-37) from the floor, 66.7 percent (10-of-15) from the free throw line and hit one of his two attempts from three-point range
  • Helped Florida SouthWestern stay unbeaten with wins over Miami Dade and Central Florida
  • Recorded a double-double in 105-99 win vs. Miami Dade with 33 points (13-of-21 FG) and 14 rebounds
  • Just missed another double-double, finishing with 22 points and nine rebounds in win vs. Central Florida

NJCAA Region 8 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Raven Baker-Northcross, Chipola
Sophomore – Guard
Malvern, Ark. 

  • Averaged 27.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 4.0 steals in two games during the voting period
  • Shot 51.4 percent (19-of-37) from the floor, 52.2 percent (12-of-23) from the three-point line and 62.5 percent (5-of-8) from the free throw line
  • Led Chipola to a 2-0 week with wins over East Georgia State and NJCAA No. 22 Georgia Highlands
  • Tallied 23 points, eight rebounds, six steals and five steals in 86-47 win over East Georgia
  • Came back the next day and hit eight three-pointers en route to 32 points in 76-53 win over Georgia Highlands; also had nine rebounds in the win
