NJCAA Region 8 Baseball/Softball Notebook: March 28

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 28, 2017) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its NJCAA Region 8 Baseball and Softball Coaches’ Polls for March 28 and Player and Pitcher of the Week selections for games played March 20-26. 

The next poll and player of the week selections will be released April 4.

NJCAA Region 8 Baseball Player of the Week
Reilly Johnson, State College of Florida
Sophomore – C
Lake Wales, Fla. 
  • Batted .533 (8-for-15) with three runs scored, one double and three RBIs in four games during the voting period
  • Helped the Manatees pick up Suncoast Conference wins over Hillsborough and NJCAA No. 6 Polk State
  • Finished the week with consecutive 4-for-4 games vs. Polk State; in the final game vs. the Eagles, he also scored three runs and drove in two
  • Reached base in nine consecutive plate appearances over the final two games – eight hits and a walk – before recording a sac-fly in his final AB of the week

Orange Park, Fla. 

  • 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in two appearances during the voting period
  • Tossed eight shutout innings in the Saints’ 6-0 win at Central Florida; followed that with six shutout innings in an 8-2 win over Seminole State
  • For the week, he totaled 14 innings, allowing nine hits, no runs and three walks while striking out ten

Kyaira Brown, Chipola
Freshman – DP
Tallahassee, Fla. 

  • Batted .727 (8-for-11) with three runs scored, two doubles, one home run, five RBIs and one stolen base in four games during the voting period
  • Hit safely in all four games, all wins for Chipola
  • Was 3-for-3, finishing a triple shy of the cycle and drove in four runs in game one vs. ABAC
  • Was a combined 4-for-6 in a doubleheader vs. Pensacola State

Krystal Goodman, Chipola

Long Beach, Miss. 

  • 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in two appearances during the voting period
  • Picked up wins over ABAC and Pensacola State
  • In the win vs. Pensacola State, she tossed a two-hit shutout with 15 strikeouts
  • For the week, she totaled 11.1 innings, allowing three hits, one run (unearned) and one walk while striking out 21
  • She anchored a staff that allowed one run over four games last week
