NJCAA Region 8 Basketball Notebook: January 10

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (January 10, 2017) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its NJCAA Region 8 Men’s and Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Polls for January 10 and Player of the Week selections for games played January 2-8. 

The next poll and player of the week selections will be released January 17.

NJCAA Region 8 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Jason Burnell, St. Petersburg
Sophomore – Forward
Deland, Fla. 

  • Averaged 26.0 points, 16.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals in two games during the voting period
  • Shot 56.4 percent (22-of-39) from the field and hit all eight of his free throw attempts
  • Helped St. Petersburg to a road victory at Central Florida as well as a win over State College of Florida in the Suncoast Conference opener
  • Posted double-doubles in both games – 28 points and 18 rebounds (and three steals) in the win vs. Central Florida; 24 points and 15 rebounds vs. State College of Florida
  • Against Central Florida, he shot 11-of-22 then hit 11-of-17 from the floor against SCF

  • In her only game of the voting period, she recorded a double-double – 19 points and 11 assists – in Pensacola State’s 100-89 win over nationally-ranked Tallahassee
  • Shot 5-of-11 from the field and 8-of-11 from the free throw line
  • Also credited with two rebounds and two steals in the Pirates’ victory
