NJCAA Region 8 Baseball/Softball Notebook: February 21

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 21, 2017) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its NJCAA Region 8 Baseball and Softball Coaches' Polls for February 21 and Player and Pitcher of the Week selections for games played February 13-19. 

The next poll and player of the week selections will be released February 28.

NJCAA Region 8 Baseball Player of the Week
Jacob McFadden, Eastern Florida State
Sophomore – OF
Seminole, Fla. 

  • Batted .467 (7-15) with three runs scored, one double, two home runs and 10 RBIs in three games during the voting period
  • Hit safely in all three games for the Titans
  • Went 2-for-4 with an RBI vs. Daytona State; was 1-for-5 with two runs scored against Santa Fe
  • Enjoyed his best game of the week vs. Lake-Sumter State, going 4-for-6 with three runs scored, two homers and seven RBIs

NJCAA Region 8 Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Matt Weidenbach, Lake-Sumter State
Sophomore – RHP
Jacksonville, Fla. 

  • 2-0 with a 0.69 ERA in two appearances during the voting period
  • Opened the week with six innings of one-hit ball against the Southeastern JV. He allowed one run and one walk and struck out six in the Lakehawks' 5-3 win
  • Against Florida SouthWestern, he tossed seven shutout innings and struck out eight in Lake-Sumter State's 6-0 win
  • For the week, he totaled 13 innings, allowing six hits, one earned run and three walks while striking out 14

NJCAA Region 8 Softball Player of the Week
Cameryn Strother, Seminole State
Sophomore – OF
Chesapeake, Va. 

  • Batted .688 (11-for-16) with six runs scored, one double, one triple, three RBIs and one stolen base in six games during the voting period
  • Hit safely in all six games and scored in five of the six for the Raiders, who were a perfect 6-0 for the week
  • Was 3-for-5 in a doubleheader sweep of Hillsborough; went 4-for-6 with two runs scored in a sweep of Eastern Florida State
  • Against Miami Dade, was 1-for-1 in game one then went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, a double and two RBIs in game two

NJCAA Region 8 Softball Pitcher of the Week
Morgan Goree, Chipola
Freshman – RHP
Senoia, Ga. 

  • 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in two appearances during the voting period
  • Was the winning pitcher in games against Alabama Southern (11-0) and Walters State (1-0)
  • Allowed two hits in four innings with five strikeouts against Alabama Southern
  • Tossed a complete-game three-hitter against Walters State with eight strikeouts
  • For the week, totaled 11 innings and allowed five hits and one walk with 13 strikeouts
