NJCAA Region 8 Basketball Notebook: December 6

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (December 6, 2016) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its NJCAA Region 8 Men’s and Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Polls for December 6 and Player of the Week selections for games played November 28-December 4.

The next poll and player of the week selections will be released December 13.

NJCAA Region 8 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Kareem Brewton, Eastern Florida State
Sophomore – Guard
Claxton, Ga. 

  • Averaged 24.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.0 steal in three games during the voting period
  • Shot 50.9 percent (29-of-57) from the floor and 60.9 percent (14-of-23) from the free throw line
  • Helped Eastern Florida State to three wins at the Monroe (N.Y.) College Classic, knocking off Harcum, Baltimore City and the host Mustangs
  • Was within striking distance of a triple-double vs. Harcum, finishing with 32 points, nine rebounds and eight assists. Knocked down 14-of-23 shots from the field in the win.
  • Followed up with 24 points vs. Baltimore City and 16 vs. Monroe

NJCAA Region 8 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Alexis Jean, Palm Beach State
Sophomore – Forward
Port St. Lucie, Fla. 

  • Averaged 19.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 block in two games during the voting period
  • Shot 41.2 percent (14-of-34) from the floor, 50.0 percent (4-of-8) from the three-point line and 75.0 percent (6-of-8) from the free throw line
  • Led Palm Beach State to a pair of wins at the Florida College’s Women’s Basketball Shootout – a come-from-behind victory over Santa Fe and an upset of NJCAA No. 12 Northwest Florida State
  • Tallied 17 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two blocks in the win over Santa Fe; posted a double-double – 21 points and 10 rebounds – against Northwest Florida State
