NJCAA Region 8 Baseball/Softball Notebook: April 25

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (April 25, 2017) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its NJCAA Region 8 Baseball Coaches’ Poll for April 25 and baseball and softball Player and Pitcher of the Week selections for games played April 17-23. 

The next baseball coaches’ poll and player of the week selections for both sports will be released May 2.

Trenton McGhee, St. Petersburg
Sophomore – OF
Jacksonville, Fla. 

  • Batted .500 (6-for-12) with four runs scored, one double, one home run and five RBIs in three games during the voting period
  • Led the Titans to a series win vs. Hillsborough, clinching the Suncoast Conference’s Wild Card berth in the process
  • Went 2-for-4 in each game; scored twice, homered and drove in two runs in game one
  • Scored in drove in two runs in game two, scored and had an RBI in game three

NJCAA Region 8 Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Brendon Little, State College of Florida
Sophomore – LHP
Malvern, Pa. 

  • 1-0, 0.00 ERA in one appearance during the voting period
  • Tossed six innings in the Manatees’ 4-3 win over nationally-ranked Polk State on April 21
  • Allowed four hits and one walk, the only run allowed was unearned and he struck out 13

NJCAA Region 8 Softball Player of the Week
Kelsee Cullop, Central Florida
Sophomore – CF
Winter Haven, Fla. 

  • Batted .500 (8-for-16) with six runs scored, four doubles, four RBIs and one stolen base in four games during the voting period
  • Hit safely in all four games, leading the Patriots to a sweep of State College of Florida and a doubleheader split vs. Indian River State
  • Went a combined 5-for-8 vs. State College of Florida; both game one hits were doubles and she was 3-for-5 in game two
  • Went a combined 3-for-8 with three RBIs vs. Indian River State

Morgan Cushman, Central Florida

  • 2-1 with a 0.68 ERA in three appearances during the voting period
  • Pitched five shutout innings of one-hit game in a 7-0, game two win over State College of Florida
  • Went the distance in a 12-1, five-inning win over Indian River State
  • For the week, she totaled 10.1 innings in the circle, allowing 10 hits, one run (earned) and no walks while striking out 14
