FT. PIERCE, Fla. (January 24, 2017) - The Indian River State College Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving teams continued their season this past weekend on the road at Florida Southern College.

Both teams knew going into the meet that the outcome would perhaps not be determined until the final relay, which was exactly what happened.

For the women, the meet started off well with wins coming in the first four events - 200 medley relay (Courtney Stewart, Courtney Perrett, Osianna McReed, and Sarah Dostie), 1000 free (Ianthe Van Der Westhuizen), 200 free (Malin Wallen), and 50 free (Osianna McReed).

Despite some close races, IRSC only won two more events from Perrett (100 free) and Stewart (100 back), and would need to win the final relay to outscore the Mocs. The IRSC women unfortunately were not able to match FSC's depth in the relay and lost the meet by a score of 106-99.

On the men's side, the meet was just as exciting with IRSC winning six of the 11 races including the 200 medley relay (Jason Van Der Touw, John Fauteux, Nick Loomis, and Gavin Erdmann), the 200 free (Van Der Touw), 50 free (Guillaume Bolivard), 100 fly (Loomis), and 100 breast (Fauteux). The winner of the final relay would determine the winner of the meet and it was IRSC's team of Erdmann, Cameron Newton, Luka Tomic, and Bolivard that secured the win putting them ahead of FSC by the same score as the women's competition, 106-99.

Up next for IRSC will be the final college dual meet of the season when they travel to Florida Atlantic University on January 28.
