FT. PIERCE, Fla. (January 11, 2017) - Indian River State College's men's and women's swimming and diving teams provided an exciting finish to its home schedule with a sweep against the University of Tampa.

The women's competition was extremely close, despite Indian River State winning 10 of 14 events. In fact, it came down to the final event - the 200 free relay - to determine the winner.

Trailing by five points, Indian River State's Osianna McReed, Courtney Perret, Courtney Stewart, and Malin Walle won the relay - and the meet - for the Pioneers, 132-130.

Indian River State started off with a win in the 200 medley relay, but dropped the next event to fall behind the Tampa women.

In the next thre events, The River picked up wins in the 200 free (Malin Wallen), 100 back (Courtney Stewart), and 100 breast (Courtney Perrett) to re-gain the lead. Additional wins came from Osianna McReed (50 free and 100 fly), Courtney Perrett (100 free), Courtney Stewart (200 back) and Natalie Grothe (200 IM). 

Indian River State also won 10 of 14 events in the men's competition. Victories came in the 200 medley and free relays and individually by Jason Van Der Touw (100 back, 500 free), Nick Loomis (100 and 200 fly), Joel Hansson (100 and 200 breast), Cameron Newton (200 free), and Guillaume Bolivard in the 100 free.

Indian River State won by a score of 156-106.

Up next for the river is a trip to Florida Southern College on January 20.
